MACKENZIE SECHI
MacKenzie Sechi is a mezzo-soprano from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She is currently in her second year of the Master of Music in Opera and Voice at McGill University, where she studies with Tracy Smith Bessette.
MacKenzie has had the opportunity to perform several operatic roles in the past three years, most recently singing Berthe in Opera McGill’s production of Blond Eckbert. Other credits include le Prince Charmant in Massenet’s Cendrillon and Jo in Adamo’s Little Women. This past summer, MacKenzie participated in Opera5’s internship program, where she covered and performed the role of Mrs. Grose in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. MacKenzie also has a strong background in musical theatre, and has played characters such as the Witch in Sondheim’s Into the Woods and Marcy Park in Finn’s The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Last year, she also made it to the semifinal round of the NATS National Music Theatre Competition in New York City.
Upcoming in her 24-25 season, MacKenzie looks forward to playing the role of Margaret Johnson in Opera McGill’s production of Guettel’s The Light in the Piazza. She is also thrilled to be returning as an intern with Opera5 and performing in their production of William Finn’s Elegies. Following this, she will return to Quebec to participate in the Lachine International Vocal Academy.
MacKenzie completed her Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance at Wilfrid Laurier University in June 2023, where she studied with Kimberly Barber.
