Gregory Dahl

Baritone Gregory Dahl is one of Canada’s foremost dramatic voices, celebrated for his “commanding presence” and “ample tone and impeccable legato.” In recent seasons, he has starred in the title roles of Don Pasquale and Der fliegende Holländer at Vancouver Opera and reprised Escamillo in Carmen with the Canadian Opera Company (COC). He also appeared as Scarpia in Tosca with Opera West, the title role in Gianni Schicchi and Tonio in Pagliacci at Opera Kelowna,  Benoît/Alcindoro in La Bohème and Baron Douphol in La Traviata at the COC, and Hermogines in Rufus Wainwright’s Hadrian at Madrid’s Teatro Real, a role he premiered at the COC in 2018. In concert, he’s been a featured soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre classique de Montréal, and the Okanagan and Lethbridge Symphony Orchestras. He also performed Brahms’ Requiem with the Orchestre symphonique de Gatineau and Alfio in concert performances of Cavalleria Rusticana with Vancouver Opera.


Further operatic highlights include Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor and Donner in Das Rheingold with Opéra de Montréal; Germont in La traviata with Opéra de Québec and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly with the COC. A frequent Verdi interpreter, he has sung Rigoletto, Amonasro in Aida, Iago in Otello, Ford in Falstaff, and Macbeth across North America. With an enduring passion for education, Dahl shares his expertise as a member of the voice faculty at the University of Toronto.
