BRENNA MCFARLAND

Praised for her silvery tone and charismatic performance, Brenna McFarland is a light lyric soprano hailing from Washington, D.C. Her primary roles include Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro (Winter Harbor Music Festival), Zerlina in Don Giovanni (International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia), Clorinda in La Cenerentola (Opera McGill), First Lady in Die Zauberflöte (Bethesda Summer Music Festival), Apparition in Macbeth (Maryland Lyric Opera), Lady Anne in Camelot (Charlottesville Opera), Sister Catherine in Dead Man Walking (James Madison University Opera Theater), and Johanna cover in Sweeney Todd (Rooftop Productions). She is looking forward to performing as Margaret Johnson in Opera McGill’s production of Light in the Piazza (February 2025), then covering the role of Big Sister in the world premiere of Ryan Trew’s song cycle Come Closer as well as performing in Elegies: A Song Cycle with Opera 5’s Toronto Opera Festival (June 2025). Beyond opera and musical theater, Brenna is also an avid art song recitalist and oratorio soloist, having sung the Soprano solo in excerpts of Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s St John Passion and Mozart’s Vesperae solemnes de Confessore. In the competition sphere, some awards Brenna has received include First Place in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Musical Theater regionals division, Top Five Finalist in the 2024 Classical Singer Music Competition, and Third Place in Hal Leonard’s National Art Song Competition. She is a recipient of the 2024 Alexis Hauser Scholarship for Advanced Musical Study in Austria and the 2024 Graduate Mobility Award from McGill University. Demonstrating her versatility across genres, she is often seen gigging around the D.C. area anywhere from jazz lounges to Disney princess parties. Brenna is currently pursuing her Masters of Voice and Opera at McGill University under the tutelage of Dominique Labelle.
